Worlds Colliding

I love when out of the blue and years later suddenly your worlds seem to collide or even if they just ease on by each other. Recently this has happened even if it does seem a bit random.

Years ago I happened upon a book that brought together many of the genres I love; Romance, Time Travel, and Scotland. It was fairly huge and since I always love a big meaty book, it immediately grabbed my attention. When I love a story I never want it to end. This story so far still hasn't. The first book was written in 1991. There have been seven more books since and the author is working on number nine.

If you haven't guessed by now these are the Outlander series of novels.  It has now been made into a series by STARZ.  It has been beautifully done.  It has let me know that what I always thought were a few devoted fans,  there are actually legions of fanatics like myself.

So what does this have to do with worlds colliding, you ask? Well while it makes sense that the needle arts would be included in a story about Scotland in the mid 1700's, I was not prepared for how many amazing knitted pieces would be used by the wardrobe designer.

Every episode Claire (the main character) sports one amazing cowl, shawl, mitts after another. It is really making me want to break out the knitting needles, something that I haven't done for a couple of years.

After having a fiber shop and constantly making either samples, product to sell, or commissioned pieces for customers, I was BURNED OUT on knitting. But Outlander and their amazing wardrobe designer has started that itch.

Knitting is something that has come to me off and on over the 40 years since I learned how, at age 10 or 11, in 4H in rural Wisconsin and when I am knitting or crocheting I am amazed at how grounding and calming it can be.

So enjoy these amazing images of Claire in Outlander and see if it inspires, or centers you too.  I hope it helps you to always keep open to inspiration, or that obscure message that brings back an early love or interest. Keep creating.

Introducing RETROMANTIC

Well we are finally ready to tell all....

Images Stitchery Design is making some major changes....

First and foremost we are changing our name! As of August 1st we will be Retromantic. Retromantic is a business Kathy had in the past that sold vintage, candles and anything she loved. As we have grown in the last year we have come to realize that the name Images Stitchery Design does not really reflect who we are now or who we want to be.

We are lovers of vintage, history, whimsy, ephemera, texture, and everything pretty. Retromantic, we feel, reflects all of this.

Secondly, as we have been experiencing crazy great growth, we realize we need to adjust some of our business practices and costs. While no one ever wants to raise prices or costs, in order to grow how we, and believe you want us to, it must be done. We have pored over a great deal of research and feel what we have come up with is fair for all. Ok, enough of the serious stuff.

We have a new website we are VERY proud of. We have done it all ourselves and we think it is coming along pretty well. (retromanticfripperies.com) Check it out and tell us what you think.

And finally, we have brought some of our favorite men into the business. Richmond Powers (creative guru) has come back into the fold, Tom Cabezas is helping with production and is a general genius with ideas and shortcuts, and shop dog Percy keeps us all in line.

While we realize we have not been able to get orders out to all of you as quickly as we all want we are hoping all of these changes will help.

Our website is going to give you all the details and, of course, we are happy to answer any questions.

We are now trying to get the current orders out to all of you and getting ready for the TNNA St. Charles trade show in a week and a half!

If you are going to be there, stop by room #615 and see our new designs.
